Social & environmental responsibility
We’re using sustainable, socially sound practices to make better products and become a better company.
Our goal is to surpass current corporate responsibility efforts
Our thinking
It's not enough to talk about protecting the planet. We're not recycling some office paper then going on with business as usual. At Nest, we think about our impact along the way.
Where we're heading.
We have big plans, but we want to be honest and transparent about where we are now.As a start-up, we know our ability to lead in social and environmental responsibility is limited by time and resources. While what we can do now doesn’t match our ultimate goals, we’re ambitious. And we’re moving in the right direction.
- Steve JohnsonOur vision for Nest is to be in front of the industry across the board – not only reacting to what is familiar, but probing into areas that go beyond what anyone else is doing.”
Director, Materials and Procurement
Our environmental considerations.
We want to address every aspect of a product’s life, including how it gets reused and recycled. Thinking this way in the early stages of design helps us eliminate waste in the long term.Leading social responsibility efforts.
We want to have a positive impact on our community. Nest strives to be a good citizen when it comes to health, pay, education and labor practices.Where we're at now.
- No hazardous substances. We’re fully compliant with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive).
- We require ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard certification in suppliers.
- No child labor. Our manufacturing partners vet suppliers and get certifications of compliance.
- Worker safety. We’re continuing to develop our auditing process for worker safety, and are certified in compliance with local labor laws in manufacturing regions.
- REACH compliance. We’re in accordance with this EU requirement to manage chemicals correctly and not to bring certain chemicals into the country.
- Sustainability. We’re working with well-known corporations overseas in order to source from companies who are committed to improving social and environmental practices.
